Meet The... TF Community, Toby,

Next up on meet the TF Community. We spoke to Toby @toby_picco

How did you start in the trade?

I gained an interest in the trades from my dad, he was an incredibly talented man and could turn his hands to most things. I picked up a lot of skills working alongside him and other tradespeople, until eventually I fell in love with carpentry and wood working!

What aspect do you enjoy the most?

I would say that I enjoy trim / finish work the most, it's the icing on the cake, the cherry on top! But... I also love setting the chop saw up, donning my Diamondback toolbelt and getting stuck into some framing. And roofs, I love roofs!

What is your favourite job that you have completed?

It's hard to pick a favourite job as there have been so many!

However, one that sticks out in my mind was a bar that I built for a customer inside an old threshing barn, in Wiltshire. The walls and ceilings were all clad with birch ply, with birch ply doors, a birch ply kitchen, and even a birch ply staircase that was built on site by a couple of comrades and myself!

It was a lot of ply, some may say an excessive amount, but it was a really smart finish and a lot of fun!

What is the one tool that you cannot live without?

One tool I cannot live without? Tough one!!! Can I pick 2?! Too late... My orange Martinez M1 framing hammer, and my orange Martinez rapid square. Both purchased from TFTools of course!

What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?

Like my dog, I have a lot of energy and need lots of exercise! I enjoy going to the gym in the evenings after work, and getting out for lots of walks at the weekend. I love exploring the coastal paths and going off the beaten track!
